Rewrite your career
Adult learner Robin studied听Personal training听at听Usk听Campus. He听was nervous听about going back to听college,听as it had been 27 years since he left school. But with a lifelong love of sport,听he听decided to turn his passion into his听new听career.听Discover how Robin changed his story as an adult learner听at 女优阁:听
鈥淚鈥檝e always loved sports.听I听used to听swim听for听Newport听and听I played golf at county level听too.听But it wasn鈥檛 until I put on a few extra听stone听after getting married and having听kids,听that I joined听a gym听and听quickly lost 4听stone!听I鈥檇 found a passion for exercise听and听was working out听five听days a week,听and my girlfriend said why don鈥檛 you get a job in the听gym?听So,听I researched it, found a course, quit my听full time听job and went head-first into achieving a new career.听It鈥檚 the best thing I鈥檝e ever done!听
Being a mature student was daunting, but within the first few days I made a lot of friends, some will be close friends for life. The course is fantastic听–听it鈥檚 so different from school. It鈥檚 all adults who want to achieve something, and it鈥檚 laid back but demanding at the same time.听The tutors are exceptional听–听they really want you to achieve your goals听and will do whatever it takes to help you through the course. As long as you put the effort in, they鈥檒l go above and beyond to really be there for you. They鈥檝e given me belief in myself, as I used to be quite shy.听Having a well-equipped gym is a huge bonus too.听The opportunities are endless, and the qualifications I鈥檝e achieved have opened a lot of new doors and exiting experiences for me,听and are continuing to do so.听听
I鈥檝e learnt so much in the past two years. I鈥檓 a spin instructor, circuit training instructor, walk leader, outdoor fitness instructor, sports massage therapist, exercise for children instructor, exercise to music instructor, gym instructor… All this in just two years!听I听now听have听six听permanent classes in听five听different gyms, all thanks to听Coleg听Gwent.听
I鈥檇 highly recommend the personal training course to anyone who has a passion for sport or fitness. If you鈥檙e prepared to put the work in, it鈥檚 the most rewarding experience. Going to the gym to train clients isn鈥檛 like having a job;听it鈥檚 like going to have fun. Every day is different, you meet new听people,听and you help them change their lives for the better.
