In a nutshell

You’ll explore a variety of relevant ideas and resources relating to Graphic Design and produce practical responses to these, demonstrating an understanding of different styles, genres and traditions.

What will I be doing?

You’ll develop skills in demonstrating meaning, function and purpose to show an awareness of intended audience or context for your design. The first 15 weeks of the course are designed to develop existing skills and encourage students to develop new skills.

AS Unit 1: Personal creative enquiry

This assignment will last from January through to May, where a body of work and final outcome will be submitted for assessment.

A2 Unit 2: Personal investigations

You’ll develop your own brief to further develop your studies in an 18-week assignment. You’ll be expected to produce a body of work, with a written element of 1000 words and a final piece.

A2 Unit 3: Externally set assignment

This unit of work is externally set by the WJEC. You’ll be given a preparatory period where you can explore and decide upon a pathway to study. In addition, you’ll have a controlled element of 15 hours to produce a final piece of work.

What is expected of me?

To enrol, you’ll need a minimum of 5 GCSEs, Grade C or above, to include English and mathematics.

Full commitment to attendance is required, as is respect for others, enthusiasm for the subject and self-motivation. You’ll be continually assessed and there is an expectation that you’ll continue your studies and coursework during your own time.

What comes next?

From AS Level, you may continue the course into the second year of study to gain a whole A Level in this subject.

Those with the A2 qualification can progress to a Foundation Diploma Study course, before undertaking a degree in Art & Design.

Additional information

There is a £10.00 studio fee and you’ll be expected to purchase art equipment in the form of a 'kit' specially designed for the requirements of the course.
