IEMA is the professional body for everyone working in environment and sustainability. This course will give you a foundation of environmental and sustainability knowledge to build on and leads directly to IEMA Associate Membership.
The IEMA Foundation Certificate is for anyone looking to make an impact in an environment or sustainability role. It focuses on environmental management so it's perfect if you're starting out, responsible for collecting and collating environmental or sustainability data through to providing routine checks on legislative or pollution prevention measures.
This course is available as part of a Personal Learning Account (PLA). PLA is an initiative from the Welsh Government which offers people the chance to access free, part-time courses with flexible and convenient learning that fits around their existing lifestyle (subject to eligibility).

... anyone over 19, living in Wales and in employment. The usual salary limit of £32,371 does not apply for this course.
... anyone who needs to gain a sound understanding of the principles of environmental management, including those who wish to start or advance their career in this sector.
Course content
This course is delivered by virtual classroom. Virtual classrooms are equivalent to face-to-face classroom courses, but delivered in an online environment.
Course Duration: 5 days plus online exam.
The course is delivered as follows:
UNITS
Element 1 - Core Environmental Principles
Element 2 - Sustainability and mega-trends
Element 3 - Policy and legislation
Element 4 - Environmental Management Systems
Element 5 - Performance evaluation
Element 6 - Additional management and assessment tools
Element 7 - Communication and the management of change
ASSESSMENTS
The IEMA Foundation Certificate is assessed with a 1-hour, open-book online multiple-choice test hosted by IEMA.
The assessment runs on a monthly basis, and you will be given a 28-day window of submission, typically the 3-28th of the month.
There are 30 questions, you need 21 correct answers to pass the course.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal requirements, however it is important that learners have a suitable standard of English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus. No prior experience or knowledge is required.

The PLA programme intends to provide quality career advice and guidance to participants before, during and after their learning.
Prior to being enrolled onto your PLA funded course, a individual learning plan will be discussed with you to ensure that the right learning has been considered.
This will include a general discussion on the following topics:
