Why should I consider a career in healthcare?

There are lots of great reasons to consider working in this sector and becoming a healthcare hero, and a career in healthcare could be closer than you think. So, why not join the next Ůӟó Open Event to find out more about the different routes you can take… It’s much broader and more holistic than just medicine and nursing!

A variety of roles

Healthcare roles

The sector offers a wide range of roles and diverse work settings. Healthcare doesn’t just take place in hospitals and care homes, but also in complementary therapies in the community, science labs, and essential occupations behind the scenes in digital technology, engineering, admin and beyond. So, there are many skills that are highly sought-after and in demand.

The COVID pandemic made us realise how much we value holistic care services like hairdressing, which impacts positively on our wellbeing. And we’ve also seen the positive influence of digital technology and engineering in healthcare too, with new advances and innovations leading the way. So, these skills and services are highly sought after, just as much as care roles, and with courses at Ůӟó, you can gain hands-on experience in a range of healthcare settings.

You could explore a vocational course in Health, Care and Early Years, Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy, or Science, where you’ll gain knowledge, skills and hands-on experience to kick-start your career in healthcare, or pursue your interests in engineering and technology to prepare you for the field of healthcare innovation. Or you could explore your favourite subjects at A-Level, with topics like Biology, Health and Social Care, and Psychology feeding naturally into healthcare roles, alongside technology and IT if you’re keen to shape the future of the healthcare sector. If you’re not sure what A-Level subjects to take, our Social Science pathway and Medical pathway will guide you to identify the right cluster of subjects to take you into a successful healthcare career.

Feel good factor

Many people choose to work in healthcare to make a real difference to others’ lives. It’s known to be one of the most rewarding sectors, so you’ll get a strong sense of job satisfaction. Whether you’re looking after children and influencing them at the early stages in life; caring for the sick in hospital at the toughest time in their lives; providing a wellbeing service to improve quality of life; or developing the next healthcare innovation to help save lives; your impact will be a positive one.

As an integral part of the local community, Ůӟó recognises that working in healthcare enables you to give something back to your community. Currently, the college supports Ty Hafan as their chosen charity of the year to enable all students and staff to be part of this. So, if you’re looking for a career with a feel-good factor and a college that shares the same ethos, healthcare at Ůӟó is the route for you.
