Best ever A*-C Grades at 女优阁

Once again this year, we鈥檙e celebrating our learners who have come out on top with outstanding A Level, vocational and BTEC results. We鈥檝e seen the best A* – C grades ever, with a 4.6% increase聽and several learners successfully securing places at Cambridge University in September!

1,329 A Level results were received electronically today, with over 80% of these achieving A*- C grades. We鈥檙e also celebrating a 100% pass rate in 57 A level subjects 鈥 an impressive increase from 46 subjects last year.

Across the college, Level 3 vocational and BTEC learners also received their grades today, with exceptional outcomes. We鈥檙e very proud of the hard work, resilience and dedication all our learners have shown, despite the challenges faced since the pandemic hit.

This is the first academic year that the state-of-the-art Torfaen Learning Zone has been open to learners and an impressive 1025 A and AS Levels were taken. A Level learners achieved an overall pass rate of 97.3% and first year AS learners achieved a 91% overall pass rate.

Meanwhile, learners at Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone benefitted from the teaching expertise of their A Level team who recently won the Bronze accolade as Pearson Team of the Year in 2021, enjoying an exceptional 99.1% overall pass rate. While learners and staff at Crosskeys campus also celebrated with a fantastic 97.2% overall pass rate.

Principal Guy Lacey said:

鈥淐ongratulations to all our learners on another set of outstanding results this year – we’re very proud of your hard work and achievements! This year we are proud to be issuing results to our newest group of A level learners at the newly opened Torfaen Learning Zone, as well as our learners from Crosskeys and the Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone. The hard work and dedication of the class of 2021 will set them in good stead for their next steps after college. We wish them the very best of luck for the future.”

Crosskeys Campus

Lyra JannettaAfter working extremely hard, A Level student Lyra Jannetta from Oakdale, achieved incredible results with 4 A* grades in Physics, Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and the Welsh Baccalaureate, cementing her place to study Natural Sciences at the prestigious Cambridge University.

With a passion for STEM subjects, Lyra hopes to discover her scientific niche and pursue a PhD.

She鈥檚 been both excited and apprehensive for her results, as she鈥檚 been waiting to find out if she met the conditions of her offer to study at Cambridge, and results day has been a huge success for Lyra!

Hussain Ahmed KhanHussain Ahmed Khan from Newport, will also be joining Lyra at Cambridge University in September to study Aerospace Engineering after achieving 3 A*s in A Level Maths, Chemistry and Physics. He explained;

鈥淚 was really nervous to receive my results, as the course I was applying to required very high grades, and I was scared in case I ended up missing them. But I was also very excited because I knew the amount of effort I put in and my teachers had put in behind me. I was sure that I would get the grades I needed in the end.鈥

BTEC Applied Science learners, Abigail George, Hollie Williams, Joel Chick, Tristan Lee, and Shalini Suansing achieved top grades 鈥 Distinctions and Merits 鈥 in their vocational studies.

Abigail found that the BTEC course was 鈥渁 great alternative to A Levels. It was heavily coursework based and allowed me to still get good grades to get into a great university without having as much pressure and stress of exams.鈥 She鈥檚 now excited to study Biomedical Science at Cardiff University in September.

Meanwhile, Joel, who aspires to become a Physiotherapist, thought the BTEC was 鈥渁 great choice if you鈥檙e looking for a job involving science, as it gives you so many options and there鈥檚 lots of support from tutors.鈥 Joel is looking forward to studying Physiotherapy at Cardiff University.

Megan Grace翱补办诲补濒别鈥檚 Megan Grace will be starting her medical degree at Cardiff University this September after achieving 4 A*s.聽 She said;

鈥淢y lecturers have been incredibly supportive throughout the application process to medical schools. I definitely wouldn鈥檛 have been given a place without their unwavering support.鈥

Mason Hook from Blackwood also secured a place studying Medicine at Exeter University with 2 A*s and an A. He told us;

鈥渕y university offer was ABB and I didn鈥檛 think I would be able to achieve this at times, especially as Medicine is so competitive. But 女优阁 has given me the confidence and belief to attempt to get on a course such as Medicine!鈥

Kris DayAdult learner, Kris Day, completed his IMI Motorcycle Repair diploma despite numerous set-backs during his studies. He said:

鈥淢y results are important to me as it demonstrates my determination to succeed and how much I’ve enjoyed my time at college. I鈥檓 disabled, as I have arthritis in my legs鈥 so, I was only able to come back to college and complete my qualification as a direct result of the help and support I got from tutors!鈥

Blaenau Gwent Campus

Sujana and SujinaAfter studying the same A levels at Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone, identical twins Sujana and Sujina Balendra from Beaufort have achieved double success and two well-deserved places at Cardiff University studying Biomedical Science. Sujana commented;

鈥淢y career aspiration is to become a doctor. I know that I鈥檝e done my best in each subject thanks to the help and support that I鈥檝e received from my teachers and I鈥檓 going to study biomedical science which will help me progress to study medicine at graduate level!鈥

Meanwhile, Sujina found that;

鈥溑鸥 has provided me with confidence that I will be able to achieve my goals and by studying biology and chemistry, this has provided me with important lab skills which I will use in the future in my university course.鈥

Gareth BurchellGareth Burchell from Ebbw Vale achieved an impressive 3 A*s and an A grade to secure a place to study Psychology at Cardiff University.

He explained;

鈥溑鸥 provided me with an extensive foundation of skills that I can further build upon, and I鈥檇 now like to pursue a career in psychology!鈥

Hannah Davies

The future is also looking bright for SEREN learner Hannah Davies from Tredegar, who scored 3 A* grades in PE, Biology and Psychology and is going on to study Psychology at Bath University!

With a wide choice of courses at Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone, successful learners are going on to study a diverse range of degrees at top universities across the UK. Liam Williams from Tredegar, is preparing to go to Liverpool University to study Architecture with outstanding A*AC A Level grades.

BTEC Sports learner, Hywel Evans from Blaina, hopes to work in the sports industry one day. He achieved a Distinction and will be studying Sports Management at Cardiff Metropolitan University. While Joe Nash from Ebbw Vale, worked hard to achieve AAB in Welsh, Spanish and Biology and is now looking forward to a degree in Modern Languages at Swansea University.

Meagan PearsallCardiff University will also be welcoming Lucy Winstone, Meagan Pearsall and Zach Lloyd from Tredegar. Lucy achieved A*AB and dreams of becoming a Solicitor or Barrister, so she鈥檚 excited to study Law in September.

Meagan hopes to become a Doctor, and after achieving fantastic A*AA grades, she鈥檚 secured a place on Cardiff University鈥檚 competitive Medicine course.

And Zach is pursuing a degree in Computer Science and has ambitions to become a programmer with amazing A*AA grades.

Torfaen Learning Zone

Ella GrundyThe first cohort of AS Learners at Torfaen Learning Zone included Ella Grundy, Emily Vale, Jessica Davies and Tegan Davies, who have all achieved outstanding results despite studying the first year of their A Levels during the pandemic.

Ella is making strides towards applying for Oxbridge next year with four A grades in Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Geography, and Emily also aspires to study at Cambridge with straight As in Maths, Chemistry and Biology. Working towards becoming a writer, Tegan has scored AAAA in her AS Levels, putting her in a great position to apply for Oxford University to study English Literature and Language, and Jessica, who gained BBA in Biology, Psychology and Drama, explained;

鈥淢y first year has been the best and this has been helped by teachers who are respectful and helpful, and other students who are friendly and passionate about learning!鈥

Congratulations to the class of 2021 who have excelled despite the challenges of a global pandemic, and good luck for the next step, whatever that may be.
