女优阁 team takes on the Pontypool 10k

17 February 2022

On 27th February, 20 committed staff and learners from 女优阁 will be putting their best foot forward in the in support of , our Charity of the Year.

A team of twelve students and staff from our Construction Department at the City of Newport Campus are taking part together, , alongside other members of staff from across the college campuses.

As part of our support for our charity of the year, the college community has taken part in a range of activities such as the Extra Mile cycling event, Lands End to John O鈥橤roats, raffles, the Cwmbran Kolor Dash, the Big Welsh Brew, the Tour de Gwent, the Dalmatian Bike Ride and more. Now, our Construction team have chosen to take part in the Pontypool 10k for many reasons…

For Plumbing learner, Keatan Pomroy, the charity is close to his heart – 鈥淪t David鈥檚 Hospice Care means help for a lot of people and helping people means a lot to me. I have a few family members who are cared for, and it helps them massively.鈥

Brickwork learner, Logan McGregor, also explained that 鈥淪t David鈥檚 Hospice Care helps patients with cancer and other illness which is personal to me as I鈥檝e had family with cancer too.鈥

And for Plumbing learner, Tryston Mills, the event is a chance to play his part in raising awareness and funds for our charity of the year – 鈥淚 wanted to take part to support my college and the chosen charity.鈥

It鈥檚 a great experience for the learners to take part in an event like this and have a positive impact on their local community. The team are not only training hard with strength and conditioning, practice runs, circuits, football training and other activities several times a week, but they鈥檙e also working hard to raise money for St David鈥檚 Hospice Care. They鈥檝e set up a dedicated to share on social media and they鈥檙e spreading the word among family and friends to help raise as much as possible.

Just a 拢10 donation pays for a patient to have lunch and afternoon tea in St David鈥檚 day hospice, bringing them some much-needed respite and support. Meanwhile, raising 拢160 could pay for a hospice-at-home nurse to stay with a patient overnight and give them all the care they need in their own home surrounded by their loved ones when they need it most.

Faculty Director for Creative and Technical Studies, John Sexton, explained 鈥淲e wanted to take part in the Pontypool 10k to represent the college in support of our charity of the year. The past couple of years have been exceptionally difficult for charities like St David鈥檚 Hospice Care to raise the funds they need to continue providing their vital services. So, anything we can do to help will have a positive impact. It鈥檚 great to see learners from the construction department at the City of Newport Campus taking up the challenge alongside our staff and pushing themselves to train for the 10k and raise money for the charity.鈥

With over 500 runners taking part in the Pontypool 10k, we鈥檙e looking forward to seeing our 女优阁 team among them. The route will start and end at Pontypool Park, taking the runners out to Mamhillad and back along the scenic Monmouthshire to Brecon canal towpath. 聽All funds raised for this event will be used to provide vital hospice care to local patients and their families. Good luck to team 女优阁 and all the runners taking part on 27th February!

It鈥檚 not too late to make a donation in support of the team. Every penny counts and St David鈥檚 Hospice Care is incredibly grateful for your support:
