ٳdzܲdzܰTorfaenLearning Zone Campusopened earlier this year for teaching and learning,wewere only able tohold a small, socially-distancedevent to mark the occasiondue to COVIDrestrictions at the time. So,we haven’t yethad the chance toproperly celebrate thefantasticnew facilitieson offer to learners in Cwmbran. So,lastweek, we held an official opening celebration withourpartnersatTorfaenCounty Borough Council,which wasattended by VIPs and special guestsfrom Welsh Government.
The celebrationtook place in the impressive theatre space in Torfaen Learning Zone, with speeches from ŮŸ Principal, Guy Lacey;Senedd Member,Lynne Neagle;Torfaen Council Leader,Anthony Hunt;andExecutive Member for Education,CouncillorRichard Clark.Duringthe speeches, an official plaque was unveiledfor the campus,and guests werethengiven tours of the building led by learners from the campuswho talked about the facilities on offer.
With over 1200 learners enrolled at Torfaen Learning Zone, the first year at our new campus is already proving to be a success. We sawexceptional A and AS Level resultsduring the summer, and the new academic year hasgot off to a flying start.Ourlearnersand staffare enjoying making the most of the state-of-the-art facilities and bright airy spaces on offer at the campus.
PrshuxKapdee, aged 17 from Blaenavon and Maisie Mutlow, aged 16 fromAbersychanwere both former pupils atAberyschanComprehensive.Maisie, now studying A Level Biology, Chemistry,Mathsand Drama, said: “I love this college. The teachers trust you and teach you like a grown up.”
Prshux, who is studying A Level Biology, Psychology,Mathsand FurtherMaths,commented: “I’m enjoying it a lot and enjoying all my subjects. The location is great and students with big gaps between lessons can pop into town.”
Leah Walters was a former Croesyceiliog pupil and spent a year studying in Hereford before switching to Torfaen Learning Zone. Leah who is studying A Level Biology, Chemistry, Philosophy and Law,explained: “There are loads of student study spaces. I’m really enjoying the subjects and the teachers here are really helpful.Thecampus is very spacious and there are lots of facilities and approachable staff who are very easy to talk to.”
Macy Richards, aged 17,travels from Newport and is studying A Level Chemistry, Biology andMaths.Shesaid: “Along with the amazing facilities, the environment here is a lot nicer as your mental health is paramount to making sure you do well and students are given the support they need.”
